4 Easy Tips For How To Eat Clean While Traveling

I just took a trip to New Orleans, LA for a bachelorette party. Vegan options were very scarce, to say the least. One waitress seemed almost proud to tell me they didn’t have “anything healthy” to offer me when I asked for some avocado.

However, I managed to take a 4-day trip to New Orleans and stick to my diet without a problem. I didn’t get sick, I didn’t cheat, and I didn’t complain. This is how I did it…


4 TIPS FOR HOW TO EAT CLEAN WHILE TRAVELING:

Bring Healthy Snacks
I always make sure to have healthy snacks available, even if I’m just running to the store. At any given time, you can find my bag stuffed with LaraBar wrappers, bags of raw nuts, and a full water bottle. Traveling is no different. I pack as many snacks as I can fit. Dried fruits, my protein shake and shaker bottle, nuts and seeds. I keep things on hand that provide clean energy and fill me up so I’m not tempted to cheat on less healthy options.

Practice Willpower
You’re in control of what you eat. Harness that control. Learn your body. Know what’s good for you. Recognize how certain foods make you feel. Becoming conscious of these things have helped me tremendously while I’m traveling and out of my comfort zone. It took some trial and error, but now I understand the physical consequences my body has when I don’t eat clean.

Mindful Cheat Meals
I believe in trying everything once if you feel so inclined… especially when you’re traveling. If you’re never going to get another chance to try that authentic New York cheesecake… let yourself have a bite and enjoy it! Just be mindful. Don’t eat the whole thing. Don’t go overboard with every meal. But use your travel as an opportunity to taste the world. It’s all about balance.

Yelp
Yelp is my new best friend. The truth is, clean food is becoming much more mainstream. I’ve yet to travel and not be able to Yelp a good vegan place. I even found a couple in New Orleans and they were amazing. My favorite part about eating vegan is how creative the dishes are. And trying vegan food from different parts of the country/world gives me a chance to see different takes on plant-based dishes.

Running my own online business has allowed me the freedom to travel wherever and whenever I want. With that, I’ve had to learn how to maintain my healthy lifestyle outside of the comforts of my own home. These tricks have helped me so much.
