There are so many supplements out there… thousands! With so many choices, how are we supposed to know what to chose? What is actually beneficial for us vs. what is just genius marketing? Sometimes reading the ingredients label is like reading a science textbook… I mean what is calcium testbenzocarbinite and what does it even do? I made that name up, but you get my point.
It is so important to be aware and understand what you are putting in your body. There are many ingredients that are dangerous and can even be deadly.
So here is my list of the 5 supplements that I cannot live without (and they’re safe):
1. Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs):
These are made up of 3 essential amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They assist with the breakdown of protein, muscle recovery, and reduce muscle soreness! These are “essential’ because the body does not naturally produce them, therefore supplementation IS necessary. The “branched chain” assists the aminos in turning into energy during intense exercise! Other benefits of BCAAs include: bo ost in immune system, increased endurance, increased recovery rate, and assist with visceral fat loss.
This supplement goes hand in hand with BCAAs. This is the most common amino acid found in the body (60% of skeletal muscle consists of glutamine!). It also is the primary transporter of nitrogen to the muscles. It assists in protein synthesis as well as muscle recovery. It supports new muscle growth by helping your body secrete HGh (human growth hormone). This amino doesn’t necessarily help gain muscle as it does help MAINTAIN! It is the energy source for the immune system and the primary nutrient for the intestines. Don’t burn your hard earned muscle for energy in the gym! Use this to keep that from happening.
3. Whey Protein:
Protein is the building block of muscle. It is necessary to repair, recover, and grow muscles! I prefer to intake my protein from whole foods, but right after my workout I drink a protein shake mixed with glutamine for a quick fix for my muscles! This helps build and preserve muscles. Protein shakes are also a great snack if you are on the go and don’t have time to cook a meal.
This is a no-brainer! Multivitamins are full of vitamins and minerals that the average person cannot consume daily through whole foods. This is a very important supplement, especially for women, as it supports immune health, joint health, energy, nutrition, and overall well-being! If you aren’t on a multi now, get one! Time to take healthy up a notch. *flexes bicep*
My favorite: Source of Life Gold Liquid Multivitamin (taste’s so good)
5. “Rush” Pre-Workout:
Do you ever get to the gym and would rather find a bench to SLEEP on rather than workout on? I feel that way more than normal I’m sure! Like you, I need a burst of energy to get me going sometimes. My favorite workout is Rush by Oh Yeah! Nutrition. I prefer the fruit punch flavor! It contains beta-alanine which gives a tingly feel to the skin and energy (& it’s totally harmless!) Once my pre-workout kicks in, I feel like I could carry the world with one arm. Seriously. It can assist in focus, strength, endurance, and lean mass gains! Yes, please.
You’ll notice some of my supplements I get are from Oh Yeah! Nutrition. Oh Yeah! offers NSF certified supplements. What is NSF? NSF Certified products are manufactured to the highest third-party standards. In addition to being tested for label claims and contaminants, products are tested to be free of over 180 athletically banned substances, as determined by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
With these products, you do not have to worry about harmful ingredients, failing a drug test, or not being able to compete in sports, bodybuilding natural shows, or losing your job.
