I can’t believe this is real life! What a dream come true.
On Saturday March 18th, my best friend asked me to spend the rest of my life with him + made me the happiest girl on the planet!
We are engaged!!
Our story is divine in an of itself (another post?)
Our first date was sitting courtside at an Atlanta Hawks basketball game. It was so fun and special and I remember by the end of the night I was totally into this guy!
Fast forward to 2017—Jason surprised me with Hawks vs. Trailblazers tickets for Valentine’s Day saying on March 18th we’ll get to relive our first date! (our 2 year anniversary is in a few weeks, so perfect timing.)
While we were sitting in our seats by the court, a Hawks employee walked by us looking around–completely unassuming. He and I made eye contact, and then he randomly asked me if I’d be interested in playing a game at halftime—a game where I’d be blindfolded and have to walk in the middle of the court looking for our mascot Harry the Hawk!
I was already excited just to have a chance to walk on our court, so I almost instantly said yes and asked him “is this real?” (clearly my go to one-liner when I’m excited and confused, lol.) Jason asked him, “What will she win if she finds Harry?”
The staff guy said, “Oh! You will win a cruise!”
So I obviously had to do it. And I signed a waiver (because I’m that girl who wears heels to a basketball game) in case anything happened. The contest ended up taking place during the first time-out of the third quarter. Before I was blindfolded and taken on the court, I was asking the staff what the percentage is of people finding Harry and asking them to help me out so we can win this cruise. Staff member said, “Don’t worry. I’m going to spend you around 4-5 times, and I will point you in the right direction. So wherever I stop you, you just walk straight.”
I literally thought I had just hustled a deal to get the staff to help me win the cruise, lol.
So I start walking in the direction he pointed me, and the 18K+ crowd goes wild! They were instructed to cheer and help me find Harry.
I ran into who I thought was Harry the Hawk, but when I took off my blindfold, it was Jason! I instantly thought, “OH NO. I accidentally ran into Jason! Not the Hawk! Now we’re not going to win the cruise!” So I look at Jason, look at the Hawk, look back at Jason, and proceed to put the blindfold back on. (I clearly really wanted the cruise. One track mind.)
But then, Jason got down on one knee, and the Hawk came and took the blindfold off my head. He was proposing! I had no idea what was going on until I saw him on his knee + he asked me to marry him. I was so shocked! The entire area was cheering, we were on the megatron, I heard it was on TV. It was amazing. Little did I know I was really winning a FIANCE! (watch our engagement video here!)
As we were walking off the court, I was asking him if my mom knows, did he talk to my dad first, does my best friend know? And he kinda brushed those questions off…
Turns out, we were guided to a suite he bought where our family was to surprise us and celebrate!! Our immediate family + my 2 best friends were there. It was SO SPECIAL! We have the best family + friends. The Atlanta Hawks staff is incredible for helping make this happen.
Our engagement story is so incredible + perfect for our relationship story. Our hearts are so full + we’re so happy! I will be doing the best I can to document our engagement + wedding planning for those who want to keep up. I get to marry my best friend!!
